Breakfast in Schools
Every morning across the country, New Zealand Red Cross, together with volunteers and Countdown supermarkets is helping children to reach their learning potential by serving up a healthy breakfast. The Breakfast in Schools programme offers children a healthy start to the day by providing a nutritious breakfast in a fun and friendly environment.
Windley School in Cannons Creek, Porirua, will soon be the second school in the Wellington region to implement the New Zealand Red Cross’ Breakfast in Schools programme, following on from the success of the Russell School programme which was started in March of this year. When a school signs up for Breakfast in Schools it is the Schools responsibility to provide the resources such as plates, bowels, cutlery, toaster etc. Windley School however was turned down when they applied for funding for such resources. While this is a deterrent we feel that it should not be a reason for not going ahead with the programme. To launch Windley School, New Zealand Red Cross will be purchasing plates, bowls, cups, cutlery, toasters, and other essential breakfast making items. If you would like to get behind this programme Red Cross is looking for toasters and kettles in good working order, disk racks, large storage containers for supplies, tea towels, or monetary donations towards the resources that need to be purchased. |
